Churchill look to maintain good run

Churchill Bros will look to maintain their good form when they take on the youthful determination of Pailan Arrows in their 15th round I-League match at Duler Stadium, here, on Wednesday, at 3.45 p.m.

Churchill Bros currently occupy the top spot in the League table with 28 points, the same as Pune FC. Their previous outing at Duler was a good one considering the 6-0 drubbing they handed out to Lajong.

However, despite the good nick they are in, Churchill Bros will look to not leave anything to Lady Luck when they take on Pailan. “They are among the fittest in the competition. I like their brand of football and they have some impressive results under their belt. We cannot take anything for granted,” said technical director Subhash Bhowmick.

“Everyday is a challenge for us. Everyday, we must go out there and get the three points. At this stage, we cannot afford to drop our guard,” said Bhowmick. Churchill won the first leg comfortably in Kolkata.

Striker Bineesh Balan is injured and will miss the clash. His place is expected to be taken up by another talented striker, Ajay Singh.

“You can see that there are four teams which have a chance of winning the title if results go their way. We need full points not just from this game but all games that we play. It may not be possible sometimes, but we should not be found wanting in effort. I have told the boys that they must give everything in every game,” said Bhowmick.

Recent results for Pailan Arrows have not been encouraging but Arthur Papas’ young guns have done enough to sound the alarm bells for any opposition. They are seventh on the League ladder with 14 points. A good result will not just arrest the tide of losses in the last couple of matches but also help them improve their standings. [H]
