Churchill to take on Sardinha in LS polls

The former PWD minister, Mr Churchill Alemao on Tuesday said that he will contest and make all-out efforts to defeat the South Goa MP, Mr Francisco Sardinha in the Lok Sabha elections, even though both are from the Congress party.

On the sidelines of a press conference held in Margao, Mr Alemao said, "It is certain that I will contest against Mr Sardinha in the next Lok Sabha election. I will see that he loses the election because he worked against me in the last election."

Speaking to The Navhind Times, Mr Alemao said, "If the party is not considering me as a candidate for the Lok Sabha election, I will have to think about other options to fulfil my political will – to defeat Mr Sardinha."

Mr Alemao further said, "The development I have done in Navelim is there for everybody to see. I have built bridges, which no other Navelim MLA could do." "The roads laid in Navelim are there for the people to see," Mr Alemao said while reacting to the proposed visit of the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar and the local MLA and Minister for Fisheries, Mr Avertano Furtado to Navelim to listen to the grievances of the villagers. Mr Parrikar and Mr Furtado will be visiting the villages of Navelim during the weekend.

Interestingly, the decision of Mr Parrikar and Mr Furtado to visit Navelim constituency villages has come after Mr Alemao had his first meeting with his supporters in the last week. "I had that meeting (with workers and supporters) to make it clear that there is no fraud in the roads project in Navelim as claimed by the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister was fed with wrong information," Mr Alemao said. [NT]
