CID team inspects Sada sub-jail over drug circulation
CID officials visited the Sada Sub-Jail at Vasco on Saturday to record the statements of jail authorities and to inspect the premises, in connection with the alleged circulation of drugs and other prohibited items among inmates in the jail.
According to reports, CID SP Brahma Singh, CID PI Nelson Albuquerque and other officials conducted a day-long inquiry at the Sub-Jail, after the case was handed over to the CID for further investigation. The CID team inspected the cells and also recorded the statements of Asst Jail Superintendent Bhanudas Pednekar.
CID officials also frisked staff and visitors at the jail to ensure that no prohibited item was allowed to enter into the jail premises.
When contacted, SP Singh declined to provide more details into the visit of the CID team at the Sada Sub Jail.
The alleged circulation of drugs and other prohibited items among inmates in the jail came to light when an inmate of the Sada Sub Jail had captured a video clip on his mobile phone to prove that drugs, cigarettes, liquor, mobile phone, etc, were freely available inside the jail, in a bid to expose the laxity of jail officials.
Sources further informed that the inmate then submitted the video clips to a reporter, by transferring the contents over bluetooth, when he had gone to the Sessions Court at Margao on Tuesday.
Jail authorities were quick to deny their involvement in the allegations and instead claimed that the “whistleblower” was responsible for supplying drugs, liquor, inside the jail. [H]
