CM mourns union minister’s death

Panjim: Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) Anil Dave who passed away Thursday morning, was scheduled to visit Goa between May 20 and 22 to participate in various events, including the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB).The State government, while mourning his death, recalled that it was Dave who brought in the recent amendment to the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification, providing relief to shack owners in Goa from dismantling and rebuilding their shacks every season.Speaking to Herald, Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) Member Secretary Pradip Sarmokadam said the Minister was to inaugurate the IDB on May 22 to commemorate the adaption of the Convention on Biological Diversity at the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992.
“Despite his ill health, the Minister had accepted our request to be part of the event. The news of his death is disheartening,” he said. The Board has decided to hold a low-profile event and not cancel it.Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar expressed his grief on the minister’s death. “India has lost a promising leader who had immense concern for our environment. People of Goa will always remember Anil Dave who recently brought an amendment in CRZ notification, providing a big relief to shack owners in Goa from dismantling and rebuilding their shacks every season,” he said.During his visit, Dave was to be felicitated by Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) for resolving issues (CRZ) related to Goa. “Dave had taken many good decisions. We were supposed to felicitate him,” TTAG president Savio Messais said. [H]
