CM pins hopes on SC for relief in mining case

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the government is hopeful of getting relief from the Supreme Court on resumption of mining activities in the state.

The SC will hear Goa’s mining case on July 16.

Speaking to media persons on the issue, Sawant said the state has put up a strong case before the apex court on the mining matter, adding that “we are hopeful that the Supreme Court will grant relief to Goa on the mining matter paving the way for resumption of mining activities…”

Senior counsel Tushar Mehta will represent the state during the July 16 hearing in the SC.

Advocate General Devidas Pangam and his team are following up the matter, he said.

The hearing on the mining matter had earlier been scheduled for April 12. However, it was postponed as the top court’s bench was not in session due to the COVID-19 crisis in the country. [NT]
