CM says he is ready for debate with former Karnataka Lokayukta
The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar has said that he was ready for a debate with the former Karnataka Lokayukta, Mr Justice (retired) Santosh Hegde, as regards to the provisions made in the Goa Lokayukta law.
"I am ready to take him head on (in a live telecast) on the issue in Goa," he said.
Mr Parrikar told reporters during a press conference that Lokayukta was not a solution against corruption but it could serve as deterrence, even as he said that corruption was from both sides as the giver and taker play important role in it.
The Chief Minister further said that Mr Justice Hegde has cast aspersions on his (Parrikar’s) intentions and that he should apologise for it or it would be presumed that he was not a man of integrity.
He said that provision for steep fine has been made to prevent people from filing false/frivolous complaints and fine would serve as deterrence.
He further said that now only courageous people would come to lodge complaints and that fine would only be levied in cases of false complaint. [NT]
