Complaint over pending ration card applications

The additional collector, South Goa, complained to the director of civil supplies and consumer affairs, Mr Vikas Gaunekar that ration card applications in civil supplies section of mamlatdar office of Salcete were being kept pending for months together, thereby causing harassment to general public.
Accordingly, Mr Gaunekar wrote to the mamlatdar of Salcete, Ms Triveni Velip to furnish details of pending cases for 15 and more days and asked to give reasons for delay.
“Since I took over, I am clearing the pendency besides the regular work.  I strictly issue ration cards only after verifying all the documents attached by applicants and when convinced that they are true,” mamlatdar, Ms Velip stated.
Sources in the mamlatdar office said that they issue on an average 50 ration cards in a month besides deletions and additions of names. [NT]
