Cong flays transfer of Ponda PI, CO Naik

Ponda Block Congress President John Pereira has condemned the recent transfers of two officers from Ponda.

It may be recalled that on November 14, Police Inspector Sagar Ekoskar was transferred to Goa Reserve Police, while on November 19, Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chief Officer Pradip Naik was transferred. CL Patil has been given the charge of Ponda Police station, while Ponda Deputy Collector Johnson Fernandes has been given additional charge as chief officer of PMC.

“Both were good officers and it only shows the seriousness of the government functioning. I feel the transfers are politically motivated and such arbitrary transfers should stop,” stated Pereira.

When contacted, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar claimed that Chief Officer Pradip Naik was “inactive” and that could have been the reason behind his transfer. However, Mamledar refrained from accepting that the transfer was political.

“There is nothing political behind Naik’s transfer. The chief officer failed in his duties. Apart from other issues, the chief officer could not solve the garbage disposal issue,” said Mamledar.

“Ekoskar is a good officer and I am supporting him. What I am given to understand that Ekoskar had asked for a transfer and I don’t think there is any political link to his transfer,” added Mamledar. [H]
