Cong MLAs discriminated on welfare schemes: MP
South Goa Congress MP Francisco Sardinha has once again launched a scathing attack against the BJP-led government, accusing it of meting out discriminatory treatment towards elected Congress representatives.
He alleged that the forms of the existing government welfare schemes are not being given to them, while speaking at a press conference at party headquarters on Saturday.
“Congress representatives including myself have not been given a single form. People come to us expecting they will get forms from us, to apply for the schemes, but we are unable to (give them forms). It is their duty and my right to get the forms,” he asserted.
“During the Congress tenure in office, all the elected leaders irrespective of which political party they belong to or independents were given the forms. Don’t deprive us…” Sardinha said.
The MP demanded that government should stop meting out step motherly treatment to the Opposition and honour all the elected members to function “because people expect a lot from non-ruling MLAs as well.”
Sardinha also condemned the increasing murders, rapes and house thefts. “It is very unfortunate that law and order is failing day-by-day. I request the government to open its eyes and minimise the crime incidents,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sardinha has welcomed the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram on February 28 saying, “It couldn’t have been better than this. There was stress on education, agriculture, health, women & child, and there was boost to defence.”
Addressing a press conference Saturday, he justified the hike in petrol prices, saying the global financial meltdown and hike in international crude price was reflected in the country’s economy. [H]
