Congress lashes out at Parrikar

In a press note issued here by the Curtorim Congress MLA and spokesperson of congress Legislature party, Mr Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, the Congress party has once again condemned the "outburst" of the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, at Thursday’s NDC meeting, blaming the Environment Ministry as the main cause for creating problems in the mining sector in Goa.

"It is the Environment Ministry which subsequently took action on suspension of environment clearances of the mines in the state of Goa after Mr Parrikar, who first suspended the mining activity in the state without any specific provision under the law," mentions the release.

Stating that when the Chief Minister goes to Savordem / Sanguem he blames the central government for halting mining in Goa and when he went to collect the CNN-IBN Award in Delhi he was called the Singham of Goa by Mr Rajdeep Sardesai for controlling the mining mafia and in the same function Mr Parrikar very clearly said that it is he who has stopped mining in the state of Goa, Mr Reginaldo has said that "so, it is none other than this Singham who has stopped mining in Goa and there should be a thorough probe by the Supreme Court without any interference so that legal mining can start in Goa after thorough scrutiny of the Supreme Court and after taking action against the people involved in illegal mining and illegalities."

Congress party feels that it is this Chief Minister’s constant confrontation with everyone only complicated the situation in Goa. [NT]
