Cops bust sex racket at Khareband, three held


The Margao town police on Monday busted a prostitution racket after raiding a liquor bar at Khareband, Margao, and rescued three women who were forced into the flesh trade.
Acting on a tip-off that prostitution activities were being carried out in 'Nagu bar', a police team led by Margao PI Sudesh Naik swooped down on the liquor outlet.
The raiding police team discovered that there were three rooms behind the bar which contained three cots, the floors of the rooms were strewn with used condoms and other items suggesting that the premises were used for prostitution.
While police rescued the three victims, three customers were arrested whose names were revealed by the police as Ram Kumar Chotelal, Afzal Sarkar and Arjun Naik.
The rescued victims hailed from Coimbatore and Hyderabad and are in the age group of 35 to 48 years.
The police also arrested the owner of the bar, Ashok Khandekar, the manager, Reshma Mujawar and a pimp, Mohammed Shariff.
All arrested were charged under Sections 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.
Sources informed TOI that the bar was under the police radar for quite some time following complaints from residents.  [TOI]
