Cops destroy drugs worth Rs 40,000 after 12 yrs
For the first time in 12 years, the Goa police on Wednesday destroyed drugs worth around Rs 40,000 in the incinerator at GMC, Bambolim.
The operation was carried out in the presence of DGP Kishan Kumar and members of the drug disposal committee. The latter panel includes the director of food and drug administration and the SPs of headquarters and the anti-narcotics cell. The drugs destroyed included opium, ganja, charas and brown sugar which were seized in five cases booked in the 1990s.
DIG O P Mishra told TOI, "We destroyed the narcotic drugs on orders of the court after the cases' trials were completed." The drugs had been seized in two cases booked by Quepem police, two cases booked by Vasco police and one case booked at Colva by the crime branch. Mishra said the last time drugs were destroyed was in 2000. [TOI]
