Cops fail to appear, yet again

As Goa Police failed to appear before the House Committee inquiring into the politician-police-drug mafia nexus, yet again on Friday, eyebrows have been raised if this is evidence of their lack of interest in the probe?  Deputy Inspector General of Police O P Mishra and a police inspector were summoned for the inquiry before the panel. A legislator, who is among other members on the committee, told Herald that the officers expressed their inability to appear before it owing to their ‘busy’ schedule. Another hearing has been slated next week.  Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had agreed to constitute the House Committee last August after several legislators sought explanation on the alleged role of Roy in the drug trade. The panel chairman MLA Francisco Pacheco said in Herald’s Thursday edition that ‘police were avoiding the giving of documents crucial to the inquiry’.  The committee has meanwhile already summoned the Director General of Police Kishan Kumar and other senior officers and sought the investigation papers and explanation on the delay, on February 18.
