Cops in Karnataka to nab accused in bid-to-kill case

A team of Maina Curtorim police has been sent to Kanagon, Karnataka, to arrest a local Chandrashekhar Paravarra Maneyanavar, 26, for attempting to murder his 19-year-old wife Saraswati in Goa.

Police said that on Sunday the accused brought his wife to Goa by train, took her to Hill rock, Nessai, Sao Jose de Areal, and attempted to kill her with a dupatta by strangulating her neck. Assuming that she was dead, he left her in the bushes before stealing her gold mangalsutra and silver anklets worth Rs 9,000.

Saraswati, the complainant, stated that the accused asked her to accompany him to Margao by train from Davangere in Karnataka, on the pretext of going for a movie. They arrived by train at Margao railway station where he asked her to accompany her to meet his friend at Nessai.

The complainant after regaining consciousness narrated the incident to locals who took her to the police.

Police sources added that they suspect that there was a family dispute as it was an inter caste marriage. [TOI]
