Cops turn good Samaritans
In what may be a welcome relief from reports of police bad behaviour, two patrolling policemen rushed an accident victim to a hospital while the 108 Ambulance delayed in reaching the spot near Old Secretariat.
The victim was thrown off his bike after it reportedly dashed against a Maruti car near the Old Secretariat at around 3pm.
He was later identified as one Santosh Raut from Bicholim, running a kiosk below the Mandovi Bridge, as per the identity card found on his person.
It was Herald’s employee who helped the man and call for a 108 Ambulance for quick assistance. The man sustained injuries to his eye and head.
“ The ambulance was not in Panjim so the 108 Control Room sent an ambulance from Bambolim. A police patrolling jeep en route towards Panjim market stopped and the policemen constable driver Dipesh Mardolkar and Vithal Naroji Hawaldar rushed him to the hospital,” our Herald employee said.
The ambulance had reportedly not reached the spot till 3: 30pm. On inquiry by Herald, it was found that Robert’s vehicle NG- 1 was on duty at this time. [H]
