Crimes reducing in Maina-Curtorim police jurisdiction

Margao: Major crimes appear to have reduced within the jurisdiction of Maina-Curtorim police station and the police have till date verified the antecedents of around 9,000 migrants living within its jurisdiction.Police detected only one murder that occurred in Nuvem when a migrant killed another living with him in 2016 and say they did not register any attempt to murder or culpable homicide cases last year.Though both the robbery cases registered were detected last year not a single robbery case was registered at this police station and incidentally no dacoity cases too were recorded during 2017. However, Maina Curtorim police appear to be lagging behind in detecting burglary cases, as it could solve only one of the two burglary cases registered at the police station during the day and detected only two of the seven burglaries that took place in the night.  Incidentally, last year of the eight burglaries registered at night, police detected only four. This year their night burglary detection percentage is at a mere 28.57 per cent. The police have recovered one of the two vehicles reported stolen and detected both the house theft cases registered at the police station. There were no kidnapping cases reported at the police station in 2017, though the police have not been able to solve one kidnapping registered in 2016.
The Police detected the cause of 13 fatal accidents of the 17 that were registered at the police station in 2017 and also detected the cause of 18 of the 19 motor vehicle accident cases reported. They apparently arrested five persons for begging and registered one case for defacing public property, but have not yet apprehended the person who sullied the public property.Three persons were arrested by them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act while as many as 244 cases were booked under the Cigarettes and Tobacco Products Act. The Maina Curtorim police have so far verified the antecedents of 8962 migrants living within its jurisdiction having verified 11 servants, 171 strangers and 1855 tenants. The others were verified in 2016.While the police booked 171 cases under the Goa Non Biodegradable Act against people for dumping garbage by the roadside, as many as 1342 cases were registered under the Motor Vehicles Act.Altogether 258 cases were booked under preventive methods. While 83 cases were booked under Section 83 of Cr PC for preventive 163 cases were booked under Section 2 against habitual and known offenders and 163 were arrested for prevention of crimes. [H]
