CSA shock Davorlim, in semis

Last year winners Sporting Club of Davorlim were sent home packing after suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Canacona Sports Academy ( CSA) 2- 0 in the quarter- finals of all- Goa invitational inter- village Lalit Cup football organized by Lions Club of Canacona at Devabhaga ground, Canacona, Tuesday.
CSA’s Gilbert Fernandes who was adjudged man- of- the- match, played a stellar role in setting up both the goals that were scored in each half by center forward Alvito Miranda.
Twenty minutes into the first half, Gilbert collected the ball at the centerline, dribbled past a couple of Davorlim players, and sent in a through pass which beat two defenders and was converted by the unmarked Alvito who made no mistake in beating the rival goalkeeper.
Undeterred by the deficit, Davorlim played an attacking match but were thwarted regularly by rival goalkeeper Paresh Pagui.
Resuming after the lemon break, CSA gokeeper Pagui and the defenders were rock solid and denied the Davorlim forwards, and the desperation to find an equalizer was clearly visible.
To the utter shock of the Davorlim supporters, Gilbert set up yet another ball, by sending through Terrence Lobo, who finding ther rival goalkeeper coming on his way, flipped the ball to unmarked Alvito to his left, who made no mistake again to chip the ball into the goal.
The second goal almost took the fighting steam out of Davorlim boys. CSA had two more opportunities to inflate their lead but Alvito fumbled in front of the rival goal.
Davorlim had a chance to reduce the deficit but Jose Colaco and captain Paxton Gomes misfired and sent the balls sailing over the crossbar.
