Dabal panchayat probe: tax, resolution files destroyed
Panchayat investigations have revealed that important registers pertaining to house tax and resolutions were destroyed by miscreants at the Kirlapal-Dabal panchayat building last month.
It may be recalled that miscreants had set ablaze some panchayat files at the Kirlapal-Dabal Panchayat office on September 14.
According to a source, documents destroyed were registers that contained resolutions and panchayat decisions of last two years and some books pertaining to payment of house tax.
Speaking to Herald, Kirlapal-Dabal Sarpanch Ramakant Gaonkar said resolution and house tax registers of past two years have been destroyed.
“Our internal investigation revealed that registers that contained resolutions and panchayat decisions of past two years and some house tax payment books have been destroyed. There is no backup of the documents that are destroyed,” said Gaonkar.
There were rumours that miscreants selectively destroyed documents pertaining to permissions given to mining activities.
When asked if any files pertaining to mining activities were destroyed, Gaonkar said: “No, but I don’t know about the past panchayat’s decisions and resolutions that were there in the destroyed documents. I don’t understand why these documents have been destroyed. Police are investigating the case.” [H]
