Decline in foreign tourists arrival

Even though the state witnessed an impressive eight lakh tourist visiting the state from December 20, 2012 till January 2, 2013, there has been a marginal decline in foreign tourist arrivals.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar attributed this marginal downturn to strong competition from Kerala.  “Foreigners like to relax. They want a peaceful location. We have been receiving a lot of domestic tourists,” he said, while quickly adding that Indian tourists are as important as foreigners.
The minister is however confident of more foreign tourist inflow in the coming days.
“Local tourists are packing to return to their native states. We expect more foreign tourists to come to Goa in the next few days,” Parulekar said.
“We received a good number of domestic tourists this year as of now, as compared to last year. There was a huge rush during the New Year celebrations,” he added.  [H]
