Demolition drive completed at Arambol, Mandrem

 

 Completing the drive against illegal structures along the coastal belt in Pernem, authorities demolished 46 huts and three shacks in Mandrem on Thursday.
 
In total, around 140 illegal structures in thee Coastal Regulation Zon (CRZ) were demolished in Arambol and Mandrem in teh two-day drive. The demolition was carried out under the supervision of Pernem deputy collector Meena Naik Goltekar, Mapusa dySP Serafin Dias, Pernem PI Tushar Lotlikar, CRZ official Nitin Sawant and strong presence of the police force.
 
Some owners had taken up their own demolition knowing that the order had been passed. Officials, with the help of the police cleared the illegal constructions using an earthmover. Goltekar said that the drive was complete and all illegal structures were taken care of along the coastal belt from Arambol to Mandrem as per high court directives.
 
Some locals allege that big resorts have not been touched while small shack owners and traditional fishermen are being targeted by the government machinery. [TOI]
