Dempo grab Sagun in highest bid

Opener Sagun Kamat was the costliest buy at Goa Premier League Twenty20 player auction as Dempo Sports Club snapped up the left-handed opener for the highest bid price of Rs 2.65 lakh on Monday.

Dempo’s bid for the former Goa captain topped the deals made for the fourth edition of Goa Cricket Association’s Twenty20 tournament as 55 players went under the hammer for five franchises.
Sarvodaya Royals bought the services of all-rounder Saurabh Bandekar with a bid of Rs 1.85 lakh while Amogh Desai fetched the next highest bid price of Rs 1.30 lakh from Dempo. Meanwhile, Goa captain Shadab Jakati will turn out for Sarvodaya. The left-arm spinner fetched a bid price of Rs 80,000.
This year’s tournament will see nine teams compete for the title as the GCA has added three more teams, including a foreign team from Sri Lanka. There will be a team each from Mumbai and Haryana alongside the Goan teams. Apart from Dempo, Salgaocar and Sarvodaya, NRB Goa Sports Academy and Chowgule Warriors will feature in the tournament.  [NT]
