Dempo look to stay on top

After climbing to the top position with 22 points in their kitty from a very positive result that Dempo SC achieved against Salgaocar FC in their previous derby match, the defending champions are now looking to strengthen their position further when they take on Prayag United SC at Nehru stadium,
Fatorda in the 10th round of the I-League on Saturday.
Prayag United are presently 4th on the ladder with 14 points in nine matches while East Bengal stand second with 21 points and Churchill Brothers follow next with 19 points, occupying the 3rd spot.
Being in top form, Dempo are all set to notch all three points while they take on the much hyped and highly rated Prayag United, though they have to be careful of their one time play-mate, Ranti Martins who is now donning Prayag colours.
Ranti Martins will surely look forward to make his point by trying to score goals against his former team in whose company he won many laurels by scoring the highest number of goals in this league.
But as Dempo team know Ranti too well, it won’t be much difficult for the confident Dempo defenders to foil the attempts of the Nigerian striker who spent many years with the Dempo team as a formidable striker.
Prayag are currently undergoing changes in the team with the new coach  E Schattarie taking over. The new coach has  brought in new techniques and methods in the team and are eager to improve their position.
But putting it across Dempo is rather a difficult proposition and given the fact that Armando Colaco’s team is concentrating hard on tomorrow’s match for a positive result, it’s going to be a tough encounter. But Dempo need to win this match as they know very well that winning would mean that they will move to 25 points at the end of the 10th round.
A win will assure Dempo SC a four-point lead over East Bengal.
One therefore looks forward for the good show of Dempo’s English signing Rohan Ricketts and striker Ryuji Sueoka to score goals and if Koko Sakibo plays tomorrow, Dempo could be unstoppable as far as scoring goals is concerned. [NT]
