Dempo rally to hold Mumbai

Dempo Sports Club played their hearts out in the last quarter of the match to return from a two-goal deficit to hold Mumbai Football Club to a 2-2 draw in the I-League match played at Duler grounds, here on Saturday.

Both the sides playing their 18th league match, kept the full house full glued to their seats till the final hooter as four minutes of added-on time was shown.

Though both the teams returned home with a point each, fair play was the loser in today’s encounter as two players from each side were sent off by referee A Rowan of SSCB. Mumbai’s James Singh had a short span off twenty minutes on the field, while skipper Clifford Miranda of Dempo received the marching orders for second booking.

Mumbai were leading by two goals from their imports, Ghanian Evans Quao (40th min) and Nigerian ND Opara (67th min) which were cancelled by Dempo’s medio Peter Carvalho (86th min) and substitute Nigerian Koko Sakibo (89th min).

In the very 2nd minute of the match Dempo’s Godwin Franco sent a delightful floater to Anthony Pereira who flicked the ball to India International Joaquim Abranches, inside the danger zone, who shot weakly into the goalkeeper’s hands. [NT]
