Dempo Sports Club have roped in attacking Liberian midfielder Johnny Menyongar on loan from Shillong Lajong Football Club for the rest of the season.
“I have seen Johnny in the last year’s I-League with Lajong and I can vouch for his performance,” Dempo chief coach Armando Colaco told Herald on Thursday morning. He also stated that the Liberian midfielder services would be required as his versatile midfielder Peter Carvalho will not be available due to injuries.
Johnny, who has been training with the team for the past six weeks, will replace former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur player Rohan Ricketts who fell apart with coach Colaco for tweeting against him.
"Johnny is very excited to have signed up with Dempo and is looking to play under a coach who plays a very modern style of football," the official said.
The 32-year-old has been around for a while in Indian football and put up a reasonable performance in the midfield. He was a regular for Shillong Lajong but mysteriously fell out of favour with English coach Desmond Bulpin. [H]
