Dengue fear grips Mobor-Cavelossim
It’s official. Around four patients have been tested positive for dengue in the coastal village of Mobor-Cavelossim.
Chinchinim Primary Health Officer, Dr Nixon Fernandes said that the samples of the five patients, which were dispatched again for medical test have come positive in respect of four patients, indicating that they were suffering from dengue.
“We had dispatched the samples again for re-confirmation since the first test had come negative. Testing of the samples of four out of five patients have now come positive, while one has come negative”, Dr Nixon said.
The Chinchinim Primary Health Officer had earlier maintained that the tests conducted on five patients had come negative, but the health services decided to dispatch the blood samples again for re-confirmation since the clinical features of the patients pointed towards suspected dengue.
Given the situation, he said a team from the health services visited Mobor area on Thursday to continue the ongoing anti-larvae operations in the village.
Last Saturday, an awareness program was held in the village at the initiative of the Church organizations in coordination with the village Panchayat and health services as the dengue scare had hit the villagers after a woman died in Hospicio hospital, while 4-5 others were hospitalized in a Margao-based private hospital for treatment of suspected dengue.
Replying to a question, Dr Nixon said there is no need to panic since no fresh cases of suspected cases have come to light after the measures initiated by the health centre. “The people have also been made aware on the need to keep the surroundings clean, while we are undertaking fogging and other measures”, he added.
