Dengue scare: Villagers in Cavelossim take stock

 

Anxious villagers of Cavelossim on Tuesday called on the local panchayat body and demanded immediate preventive measures to stop suspected dengue fever from spreading in the village.
In a signed petition to the village sarpanch, the villagers demanded fogging of the entire Mobor area and other steps such as sanitation and sterilization of areas stagnant with water, including boats.
The petition demanded that villagers within the affected area be immediately medically checked by taking blood samples for urgent and timely treatment.
In the petition, the villagers pointed out that a women staying in the locality had died few days ago in Hospicio hospital with fever, vomiting, headache, but lamented that the authorities remained silent without taking immediate steps to check the cause of death or knowingly neglected the same. 
They further pointed out in the petition that some of the families are leaving their residences and moving away from the area as a precautionary measure.
Sarpanch Viola Costa briefed the villagers on the steps taken by the panchayat on the matter.  Deputy Sarpanch Laju Miranda appealed to the villagers to take precautions on their own and not to wait for the panchayat or health authorities for help. 
He pointed out that Dengue mosquito breeds only in clean water and appealed to the villagers not to waste time in taking their villagers to the hospital for medication.
Rosario Fernandes, who asked the villagers to assemble near the panchayat ghar this evening, briefed them about the situation in the village. Iris Passanha and others also spoke. Former Sarpanch Edwin Barretto and other panch members of Cavelossim panchayat were present. [H]
