Dept: Around 790 Laadli Laxmi applications per month

BJP's expensive flagship scheme ~Laadli Laxmi, which has a budget outlay of whooping Rs 150 crore, is receiving around 790 applications per month and the Department of Women and Child welfare issues about 395 sanction letters to eligible beneficiaries on an average.
Thus far, a total of 6327 young women have applied for financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each, under the scheme, since its launch in July 6, 2012.
Director Sunil Masurkar said the department has sanctioned 3164 applications and rejected 93 as it did not fit the eligibility criteria. From the total applications received, 3070 are being scrutinised and will be finalised soon.
The scheme was among the BJP government’s most expensive schemes which was introduced in keeping with its election manifesto in 2012 assembly elections.
At the time of official launch, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was quoted as saying that the scheme aims at reducing the financial burden on parents, and that it would address the undesirable tendency of female foeticide and arrest the declining female sex ratio in the State.
Nationalised banks have been empanelled for the scheme. Goa registers around 10,000 marriages every year. [H]
