Devotees celebrate Miraculous Cross feast

A large number of devotees celebrated the feast of Miraculous Cross at the Se Cathedral in Old Goa on Saturday.
Though the feast has been traditionally celebrated at the Church of the Miraculous Cross at Old Goa, the feast has been celebrated at the Se Cathedral in recent times due to renovation work at the Church of the Miraculous Cross.
The Miraculous Cross has been venerated since a miracle is reported to have taken place on February 23, 1619.
Fr Simon Fernandes, professor at Rachol Seminary, was the main celebrant at the High Mass, which was concelebrated by Administrator of Our Lady of Miraculous Cross Fr Eremita Rebello and other priests.
“Jesus appeared on the Cross in 1619 and from then on, people have been venerating the Miraculous Cross,” said Fr Rebello.
After Mass, the traditional Kunji  was served to all devotees and it symbolises the Kunji that Blessed Joseph Vaz lived on, while he was in Sri Lanka. [H]
