Dhavlikar panel to host Shigmo

The State government has finally given its nod to the committee headed by PWD and Transport Minister Sudin Dhavlikar to organise the Shigmo floats parade in the city on March 27.
The committee will also get grants to organise the Shigmo floats parade.
It may be recalled that the two committees, Ponda Taluka Antruz Shigmotsav Samiti (PTASS) led by former chief minister Ravi Naik and Antruz Mahal Shigmotsav Samiti (AMSS) led by Dhavlikar, had staked their claims to organise Shigmo in the city. However Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) had denied permission to PTASS on two occasions, while AMSS was undecided over the dates. Caught in the controversy, PMC referred the matter to the State government and the decision went in favour of the committee headed by Dhavlikar.
“The 24-member committee led Dhavlikar has been approved by the Director of Tourism. We had recently submitted the list of the committee members and had also requested to pre-pone the Shigmo floats parade to March 27,” said Ponda MLA and president of working committee Lavoo Mamledar.
“We received the approval letter on Thursday evening and we will apply for permission with PMC on Friday,” informed Mamledar.
“There are apprehensions among public of possible law and order problem during the Shigmo but people need not worry. The government machinery will handle the situation effectively,” assured Mamledar.
“On March 24, we will offer prayers at Mahalasa Temple at Mardol and from March 25 till 27, we will organise different programmes to celebrate Shigmo, including float parade on March 27,” added Mamledar.
Shiroda MLA Mahadev Naik and Priol MLA Deepak Dhavlikar are also on the committee as vice presidents.
When contacted, PTASS President Ravi Naik said his committee will issue a statement only after going through the order of the State government. [H]
