The Dias brothers of Assagao, Socorro Dias, Steven Dias and Jude Dias, are all set to create history on Dussehra day by holding, for the first time, a mega Konkani musical show.

Konkani musical shows are usually not held in this remote village of Assagao and even though being a village that has produced the first tiatrist – Lucasinho Ribeiro – tiatros are quite rare in this village. Another great aspect about this musical show is that it will be held on Dussehra and the show will see Konkani stage artistes entertaining crowds with songs and jokes.

"Usually such programmes are held for Catholic feast days, never held for Hindu feasts though Konkani is also promoted by our Hindu brethren. We therefore decided to hold this programme on Dussehra with the aim of creating communal harmony," informed Steven Dias. He further informed that it is sometimes quite difficult to get all artistes together as they are busy but luckily for him most were free on Dussehra.

"When it comes to preserving our mother tongue we should not bring religion in between. We have a unique art form called tiatros and we all should support this art," he informed. He said that no entertainment happens in Assagao and as he was connected with various artistes (Steven erects pandals for almost all tiatros staged in Bardez and Pernem) he thought what other better way could there be than holding a Konkani musical show. The show will be held near Socolwaddo Government Primary School at Assagao on October 24 at 7 p.m.[NT]
