District hospital in Margao likely to be ready by 2014-end: Parsekar

The Health Minister, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday said that the new district hospital coming up in Margao is likely to be completed by end of 2014.

Speaking to the media after an inter-school quiz competition organised by the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao , Mr Parsekar said that provision for more funds would be made in next financial budget and accordingly and on priority the works of the district hospital would be speeded up.

"We are trying to complete it (hospital) soon," the Minister said, adding that, since the planning of the hospital was not properly done his government has to take everything into account while spending money on the project.

The Minister further said that the erstwhile government has proposed and sanctioned hospital projects even though they are really not required. "At least these sorts of ideas will not come to my mind," he quipped.

"Since these hospitals were proposed by the Congress-led government and the people are now demanding their completion we have to complete these projects," he said citing an example of a hospital built in north Goa when there was a primary health centre which could have been upgraded.

Meanwhile, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar said that the paramedical degree course will commence at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim from June this year. "We have decided to start the paramedical degree course from June," the Minister said while speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’. He further said that he has plans to increase the number of seats gradually. [NT]
