‘Don’t victimize shack owners’
Centre for responsible tourism, an initiative of two church bodies, has called for "an urgent and constructive dialogue" with the government to understand the issue of Goan shack owners in perspective and for expediting the shack allotment process. In a detailed statement, CRT has demanded that the government should not fall prey to any lobby and deny the shack owners the chance to begin their business at the beginning of the new tourism season.
Referring to the recommendations of the Goa coastal zone management authority (GCZMA), Caritas director Maverick Fernandes and Council for social justice and peace (CSJP) executive secretary Fr Savio Fernandes wondered why sand accretion would be caused only by shack owners and not hotels. Demanding that the government authorities give up the double standards on the issue, CRT said shack owners should not be victimized. [TOI]
