DRAG protests in Panjim
The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) staged a token protest at Azad Maidan to protest the government’s denial of their rights as guaranteed under the United Nations charter.
Addressing media persons at the venue, DRAG President Avelino de Sa said that they were forced to hold this protest because they have been taking up issues with the government but without positive response. Their major demand is that people with hearing impairment should be given driving licences, as directed by the high court, but Transport Department of the Goa government stubbornly refuses to accept this.
The protest was supported by the Association for the Deaf and Blind People’s Welfare Association. [H]
