DRAG to take up case of dismissed Canacona student
DRAG has come out in support of 10-year old class V student, who was dismissed from her school in Canacona for being a slow learner with DRAG President Avelino De Sa assuring to take up the matter with Directorate of Education demanding that the student be re-admitted to school within seven days. Despite directions from the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, and the education department PTA of Shradhanand Vidyalaya has threatened to withdraw their kids from the school, if the slow-learning student is re-admitted.
De Sa said that it is sad to see that the parents are not sensitized towards the disability issue.
“We are ready to have dialogue with PTA members over the issue,” he said, acknowledging that there are several schools in Goa where ill-treatment is mooted to disabled students. [H]
