Vasco Police on Friday detained a tempo driver for allegedly dumping garbage near Coast Guard Headquarter at Shantinagar-Vasco.

According Vasco PSI John Fernandes, police received a call from Mormugao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes stating that sanitary inspector caught a tempo driver while dumping garbage packed in plastic bags along the four-lane in the jurisdiction of MMC.

Acting swiftly, Vasco Police rushed to the site and detained the tempo driver. Police also attached the tempo (GA/06/T/0932), informed PSI Fernandes.

Speaking to Herald, Chief Officer Fernandes said he received a call from the sanitary inspector stating that one tempo was dumping garbage near the Coast Guard headquarter at Shantinagar.

Fernandes further informed that he along with MMC Chairperson Fiola Rego rushed to the site.

When asked from where the garbage was brought, Fernandes said the tempo driver informed him that the garbage was brought from Ranghavi Estate, Bogmalo, which comes under the jurisdiction of Velaso Panchayat.

“The driver also informed me that he was appointed to lift garbage from the colony by panch of that area, Nandita Dayal,” stated Fernandes.

Panch Dayal, who was present at the site, stated that Ranghavi Estate has its own garbage disposing unit and she has not directed the tempo driver to dump garbage in the jurisdiction of MMC. Vasco Police is investigating the case. [H]
