Driver knocks down second victim within one month
A speeding bus knocked down a motorcyclist at Adanwada-Marcaim in Ponda on Saturday morning. The motorcyclist, Praveen Chodankar, 32, a resident of Ecoxim-Bardez, was admitted to the Goa medical college (GMC) and hospital at Bambolim in an unconscious state.
What's surprising here is that for the bus driver responsible for the accident, Ganashyam Gaude, 32, this is the second major accident in less than a month. He wasn't arrested till late Saturday. Gaude is a resident of Agapur-Durbhat in Ponda, and had knocked down an Ayurvedic medical intern on February 8, resulting in her death, by driving a bus recklessly at Mangeshi. On Saturday's accident, Gaude was driving his bus on the wrong side of the road when he knocked down the motorcyclist. Police said that the driver was attempting to overtake a parked rickshaw at high speed at Adanwada-Marcaim, and banged the oncoming motorcyclist. Chodankar sustained multiple severe injuries. Blood was oozing out of his nose, ears and mouth, and his lower jaw was fractured. He was referred to the GMC. Police said his condition was said to be critical.
Police have registered an offence against the accused under Sections 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). [TOI]
