A panel of officials from the GFA and three Goan I-League clubs inspected Duler Stadium at Mapusa on Tuesday as part of a process to accelerate the revamp of facilities for hosting I-League matches at the stadium.
The officials began their visit with a briefing by the GFA VP (North) Mr Lavino Rebello and Asst Secretary Mr Adler D’Cruz about the status of work activity going inside the stadium.
Officials later visited the dressing rooms, referees room, press area and other parts of the stadium and expressed their satisfaction; they were also pleased with the turf at the stadium.
"The turf is in excellent condition, it will only get better and better as we play more matches. All the I-League clubs along with GFA are putting extra efforts for the I-league matches to be organised in a professional manner by adhering to the regulations of the AIFF," said Mr RAJ Gomes, general secretary of Salgaocar FC.
Also present for the meeting were, Mr Custodio Almeida (Dempo SC), Mr Aldrid D’Costa (Sporting CDG), Mr Sanjiv Nagvekar (Salgaocar FC) and Mr Humayun Padiyar (GFA Contractor). Though there was no one in person to represent Churchill Bros, Mr Macario conveyed telephonically that he would support the decisions taken.
The refurbishment of dressing rooms at the stadium is in progress while all the necessary facilities like doping control room, medical room, administrative office, press enclosure, match commissioner’s area, team dug-outs etc are being provided in accordance with the I-League rules.
Although the AIFF’s final nod to the venue is expected in a week, it is almost certain that Duler would host its first I-League match on the new FIFA sponsored turf. GFA Asst Secretary Mr Adlear D’Cruz was hopeful of finishing the work before the deadlines and also projected a good spectator turnout.
"Football fans in Mapusa and surrounding areas have not witnessed quality football action since a long time. I am expecting a full house for the first match," added Mr D’Cruz.
It is learnt that Duler would host an I-League match on December 29 between Churchill Bros and Mohun Bagan.
Meanwhile, Mr RAJ Gomes has briefed GFA about the clubs’ visit. In his letter to GFA, Mr Gomes has placed before Mr Pinho the details about the joint inspection of Duler grounds, their observations and proposals:
PLAY PITCH: The astro turf is in good condition and maintained well. However, more matches are to be played to improve it. The peripheral cement supporting the astro turf is to be chamfered as discussed and shown to contractor. Fencing has to be erected connecting both the compound walls on the Eastern side.
HOME & AWAY DRESSING ROOMS: The refurbishment of the dressing rooms is in progress and all the facilities will be made available. It has been decided that dressing room for the home teams will be the one with the spiral staircase located in the North-West side.
DOPE CONTROL ROOM: The existing conference hall next to the home team dressing room will be converted into the Doping Room equipped with necessary facilities.
REFEREE ROOM: The Referee Room will be next to the office at the ground level with all facilities provided as per requirement.
OFFICE: Office will be provided with all facilities such as FAX, Photo copier, Computer with internet.
DUG OUT: Dug out for teams and Fourth Official will be provided.
MATCH COMMISSIONER & PRESS AREA: Match Commissioner enclosure will be provided in the VIP area, next to which an enclosure will be made for Media Persons.
SECURITY: We have in all approximately 18-20 security personnel who are manning the games at Fatorda. At Duler, we have four gates and therefore only 4 security officials are needed. The remaining security men should be posted in the stands as Bouncers to take care of any untoward incident.
Mr Adlear D’Cruz has been advised to supervise all these jobs and ensure that all the above works are completed by December 22. He has also taken the responsibility of bringing all equipment / items required for the Doping Room, Dressing Rooms, Office Room, Referees Room and the Players Dug Outs along with chairs from Fatorda Stadium to Duler, after the GPL match played today between Dempo and Salgaocar.
