Dy Collector holds meeting with panchayat secretaries

The Deputy Collector, Salcete, Mr Surendra Naik, on Monday, held a meeting with the secretaries of the Salcete village panchayats to discuss the  removal of  hoardings  and advertisement  boards in their respective panchayat  jurisdictions.

The panchayat  secretaries were  asked to  conduct a survey of these  hoardings installed by the companies and private parties, especially,  along the national highway in their  jurisdiction and to submit the report to his office. The meeting was attended by most of the panchayat secretaries.
It may be recalled that the High Court had directed the District Collector, Mr N D Agrawal, to constitute a committee and conduct  the inspection of these hoardings installed in South Goa.
The timeline for the removal of these hoarding was January 31.  The committee was formed in December  2012. The meeting was held with the Goa Hoarding Association, superintendent of police, executive engineer of PWD (roads), traffic police inspectors  and other officials regarding the same.
“The  Deputy Collector has to conduct the survey of the hoardings and  accordingly report the matter. But, instead of doing so, the Deputy Collector and other senior officials are pushing their responsibility on us to maintain their cordial political relations,’’ a panchayat secretary said.
Following instructions from the District Collector, Mr  N D Agrawal, Salcete sub divisional magistrate (SDM) and deputy collector Mr Naik recently  issued orders to the Margao Municipal Council to remove advertising boards in the town. [NT]
