Education department issues notice to Fatorda school

The directorate of education has issued a show-cause notice to the administrator of Madonna Primary English high school, Fatorda, directing him to explain why the school's recognition should not be suspended.

In a notice issued by additional director of education, Anil Powar, the school administrator has been asked to reply within seven days of the receipt of the notice, failing which action as deemed fit would be taken as per the Goa, Daman and Diu School Education Act and Rules.

"By virtue of various acts of negligence, the undersigned is satisfied that the management is contravening the provisions of Goa School Education Act, 1984, and Rules, 1986, made thereunder and has neglected to perform the duties or obligations imposed on it and has managed the affairs of the school in a manner pre-judicial to public interest," the notice dated January 23, reads.

The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) had, by an order dated December 26, 2012, ordered demolition of the "illegal additional construction" carried out by the school within 30 days of passing of the order, and that the school be restored to its original state. [TOI]
