‘Education is key to transformation of society’



 The Margao MLA and the former chief minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, on Saturday, stated that the education is the key to the transformation of society.
Mr Kamat was speaking as the chief guest at the Vidya Vikas Mandal (VVM)’s, Ruby Jubilee celebration programme held at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
The former chief minister said, "Education can make the country super power and therefore the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, is laying stress on education.’’
Congratulating the VVM president, Mr Ramnath Kare and his team for long and successful journey of 40 years in the field of education, Mr Kamat stated that VVM is the education hub of Margao and that he is proud
of it.
"Therefore, as an MLA, minister or chief minister, I have always extended government support to the institution which provides education right from KG to PG under one umbrella," he added.
He predicted that VVM would become one of the best education institutions in the state.
Mr Arun Nigvekar, the former chairman of UGC, said that in the 12th plan it proposed to give Rashtriya Unch Xikxa Abhiyan with an aim of giving education to all.
Mr Nigvekar opined that while giving access to education to everybody, it has to be seen as the equity of education.
"There are 25 crore families in the country. The entire spectrum -every father, mother desire for quality education. Therefore there a challenge before the educational institutions to provide it. The VVM has shown the way of providing the quality education,’’ he added.
The chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), Mr Arthur D’Silva, while praising the VVM, urged it to commence army training at the institution so that youth would develop interest in it and protect the country from the enemies.
In his welcome address, the VVM president, Mr Ramnath Kare gave a brief of the VVM’s journey of 40 years and how the team work has helped it to climb the success ladder.
On the occasion, 40 student lit the lamps. Dance was also presented. [NT]
