Elaborate programmes for Vasco Carnival celebrations


Vasco Carnival committee-2013, which was formed recently, has drawn an elaborate five-day plan for Carnival celebrations in the port town from February 8 to 12. The float parade led by King Momo will be held on February 11 which will start from Thakker house near St Andrew’s church square and wend its way along the Swatantra Path. The presentation by the floats will be held opposite Subrai Joshi Chawk. A musical show by Mr Agnelo D’Costa will start at 7 p.m., followed by prize distribution at 9.30 p.m.
Earlier, on February 8, the festivities will start at 5.30 p.m. with a performance of one-man band by Anthony followed by a Konkani tiatr – ‘Tumchim Bhurgim’ written and directed by Mr Menino De Bandar at 7.30 p.m. On February 9, there will be a concert by Ms Sonia Sirsat and professional dance troupe competition on the main stage at 6.30 p.m.
Baina beach will witness traditional boat/canoe race on February 10 at 10 a.m. Later in the evening, at the main stage in Vasco at 5, a fancy dress competition will be held for two different categories. The first category will consist of sub-juniors involving children in the age group of 3 to 9 years. The second category will have children in the age group of 10 to 15 years. Thereafter at 7.30 p.m. ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘Boy Friends’ will perform live at the main stage. On February 12, a live performance will be held with the participation of Bollywood personalities at the main stage at 6 p.m. [NT]
