Entry tax to be collected from April 15

The state government is likely to start collecting the entry fee from tourists vehicles entering Goa by mid-April this year.

The tax will be collected by the Public works department (PWD) at the entry points based on the amendment to the Goa highways rules 2012. As soon as vehicles enter Goa, they will have to pay the fee and will be given a sticker which they will have to display on their vehicle.

Principal chief engineer of PWD J S Rego told TOI that "most probably we will start collecting the entry fee from April 15".

He said that the machinery is virtually ready and that collection will be done at seven booths at the entry points. He said the fee was recently notified by the government.

Four-wheelers registered outside the state and crossing the border into Goa will soon have to pay 250 as an entry fee, sources said.  [TOI]
