Eve held for stealing student’s earrings
It was an incident similar to the one at a Mapusa school but this time round, a woman decamped with the earrings of a schoolgirl in the school premises.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 10.30 am at a school in Bicholim when Vishakha Phadte (22) from New Wada, Pilgao, entered the school campus on the pretext of meeting a student.
The accused then told the student that she needed the girl's earrings and after taking them, she fled from the school.
The student reported the matter to the headmaster and described the woman who had taken her earrings. The student happened to know the identity of woman and the headmaster accordingly alerted the police.
“The accused had told the girl that she did not have any earrings and she has assured to return it after school hours,” informed PI Devulkar.
PI Devulkar along with his team swung into action and went to Newwada Pilgao, but could not find the accused in the house. Later, the police went to Bicholim and spotted her in the market.
PSI Walke, Gad, Kerkar and Mangal Salunke carried out the operation. Phadte was arrested under Section 379 IPC and remanded to two days judicial custody.
It may be recalled that on January 22, a woman posing as a “teacher” decamped with the earrings of a Std 2 student at a government school at Kamarkhazan at Peddem-Mapusa. The incident occurred when students of the primary school were playing during recess time at around 10.30 am. [H]
