Excise officer claims signature forged

A senior Excise officer has lodged a complaint against three distilleries for forging his signature on the Import Permit and gaining illegal benefits.
The complaint has been filed by Assistant Commissioner (Excise) Sanjeev Gauns against M/S Fortune Distillers & Vintiners Pvt Ltd at Cuncolim Industrial Estate, M/S N V Distilleries Ltd situated at Ambala Haryana and M/S Associated Alcohol & Breweries Ltd Khargon in Madhya Pradesh. The alleged illegalities occurred between October 11, 2012 and January 22, 2013.
Excise Commissioner Menino D’Souza said their counterparts in Maharashtra had asked the Goa Excise to verify the permits and during the course of inquiry discrepancies were found.
“Prima facie we found some mistakes and some duplication was noticed. An FIR has been filed,” he said, adding that the investigation began after they were contacted by their Maharashtra counterparts asking them to verify certain details.
The complainant has alleged that the distillery officials with their common intension prepared a forged Import Permit in his name, forging his signature and imported raw / bulk litres of grain. These, he said, were used as genuine which resulted in a massive loss of revenue to the government. PI Rajendra Prabhudesai is investigating the case.  [H]
