Exempt truck owners from road tax: MP

South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has urged the government to stop collecting road tax from the truck owners till mining resumes in the State. Sardinha was speaking at a meeting with the villagers of Uguem at Uguem Panchayat.

“Given the halt in mining operations for last over six months, the truck owners are put in a precarious position and the government continuing to collect road tax from the truck owners will only put the truck owners into quandary,” stated Sardinha.

Sardinha assured the truck owners of taking up the issue with the Central Government and apprise the government of the immediate need to restart legal mining in Goa.

Sardinha also urged the government to penalise those involved in illegal mining leading to the present mess created in mining industry.

“Any recovery of money made from the illegal mining operators shall be used to compensate the affected truck owners and undertake development works in the mining areas,” added Sardinha.

Considering the dilapidated condition of the panchayat premises, Sardinha granted Rs 40 lakh from MPLAD scheme to Uguem Panchayat to undertake repair work of the panchayat premises and other development works.

Sardinha also assured to undertake other development works in the rural panchayats for the benefit of the villagers. Sardinha appealed the villagers to place before him the project works that needs to be undertaken in the panchayat areas under the MPLAD scheme.
