FACES A Gouly Man

FACES A Gouly Man. This Goully was quite interesting. He is one who has lived and worked in different places and often beyond the tribal environs. Their natural dwelling is in hamlets in the hills of Sattari in Goa. They tend sheep, goats and cattle, collect and sell bee-honey and know the properties of each type of honey. With rapid urbanisation, they are an endangered tribe, according to an UN report. Artist-anthropologist Maria Bernadette Gomes had been researching they unique ways and heads a committee to address their grievances, along with Dr Nandkumar Kamat. (Photo Courtesy By Joel D'souza)
