Father-son duo injured in LPG blast at Fatorda

An LPG gas leakage led to a fire in a flat in a building at Ambaji, Fatorda, on Wednesday morning, causing severe burn injuries to the two occupants of the apartment. VinodAmonkar, 55, and his son, Vallabh, 28 were rushed to hospital for treatment. While Mohan is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim, and is learnt to be in a critical situation, Vallabh, who is admitted at the Hospicio Hospital, Margao, is learned to be out of danger.

Police sources informed TOI that the incident occurred at around 9.15 am. The Amonkar father-son duo had returned to their flat late Tuesday night from a visit to the Fatorpa zatra. On Wednesday morning, when Mohan attempted to light a lamp at the altar, the presence of LPG in the room, owing to some leakage, led to a blaze.

Personnel of the fire and emergency services (F&ES) rushed to the site and quelled the raging flames. However, by that time, the father-son duo had sustained severe burn injuries. While F&ES confirmed that the LPG leakage led to the fire, they could not ascertain as to what caused the leakage.

F&ES sources claimed to have saved property worth 25 lakh, though household goods amounting to over 2 lakh were gutted in the fire. [TOI]
