Fatorda building facing demolition

The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Tuesday decided to issue a notice to demolish a ground-plus two-storey building at Fatorda.

The PDA has also vetted a proposal for the Market sub-committee to issue show cause notices to the vendors who are not occupying stalls in the market complex.

At the meeting chaired by MLA Rajan Naik, the PDA resolved to send a demolition notice under section 52 of the Town and Country Planning Act to Madonna building.

The PDA had earlier issued a notice to the owner asking him to show cause why action should not be initiated against the building. Though the owner had replied to the show cause notice, the same was found unsatisfactory.

The notice will now direct the owner to raze down the building within 30 days failing which the PDA will initiate action.

Meanwhile, the meeting vetted the market sub-committee report to issue show cause notices on all the allotees who kept the market stalls vacant and for changing the  trade. Members underlined the need to put the PDA market complex in order at the earliest.

The meeting also deliberated on a proposal to construct a market at Usgao-Ponda and it was decided to inspect the site before granting approval. [H]
