Tourists, who were in the state to celebrate the New Year, sleeping in the Ambedkar Garden in Panaji on Tuesday. Exorbitant hotel accommodation rates compelled many tourists to sleep in parks and their vehicles.

PANAJI: The New Year celebrations in the state saw marked fall in the number of tourists attending parties organised at various places, and the reasons attributed to the fall was high rates charged for entry to the events, as well as accommodation, transportation, etc.

According to the sources in the tourism industry there was a shortfall of around 20 per cent in the number of tourists/clients at parties and other special events organised to usher in the New Year and perhaps it was a sign of disillusionment among the tourists, who had been thronging the state year after year.
