Fight to end child abuse: Mamledar

Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar has urged police to take stern action if any child abuse-related cases are reported to them.

Mamledar was speaking during an awareness programme on prevention of child abuse organised by the El-Shaddai, a charitable trust, at Kranti Maidan, Ponda.
“Some 10 years ago, there were cases of child abuse but were hardly reported to police. Now that there is awareness and people are coming forward, police should act swiftly if such cases are reported,” said Mamledar.

“If we want to stop child abuse cases, then we must fight for the cause,” he said.

Pale MLA Dr Pramod Sawant said it is the responsibility of every citizen to raise voice against child abuse and such awareness programmes should be organised more in schools.

“Government should also build shelter homes for children in every major cities of the State and should be given to NGOs to manage,” said Sawant.

Earlier, children from the El-Shaddai Charitable Trust took out a rally in the city to spread awareness on prevention of child abuse.

Ponda Municipal Council Chief Officer Pradip Naik, municipal engineer Vinay Dessai, Ponda Lions Club President Sushil Parihar and singer Kumkum were present. [H]
